This page opens with the timer already set to 15 minutes. Press Start or hit the spacebar and it begins; when time is up the alarm rings and the disk blinks. You can always drag the disk to a different time.

Use it as the long Pomodoro break

After four work rounds, the Pomodoro Technique calls for a longer rest. Duke University’s Academic Resource Center gives 15 to 30 minutes for it, and Wontimer’s Pomodoro mode starts at 15.

  1. Leave your desk for the whole break so the next set starts fresh.
  2. Eat something or walk instead of scrolling, so the break does not run past the disk.
  3. Use the final minute to look at what the next round is for.

A first focus sprint

If 25 minutes feels like too much, begin with 15. After a few sprints, move up to 20 or 25 as staying with one task gets easier.

For a child’s homework, agree on one task for the block and look at it together when the alarm rings.

Reading a fifteen-minute disk

Fifteen minutes is exactly a quarter of the 60-minute dial, running from 12 to the 15 label at 3 o’clock. The halfway point, seven and a half minutes, sits between the 5 and the 10.

Questions about the 15 minute timer

Why does the disk end at the 3 o’clock position?

A quarter of an hour is a quarter of the dial. The labels are minutes, so the 15 sits where 3 is on a wall clock.

Can every Pomodoro break be 15 minutes?

Yes. In the Pomodoro tab, set the short break to 15, or set the long break to any length up to 90 minutes.

Where can I see how many blocks I did today?

Today’s summary under the timer adds up your timer minutes, and the chart further down shows the last seven days.
