How to use the futsal timer
- Pick the half length and half-time. The defaults follow the official laws: two 20-minute halves, with a 10-minute half-time.
- Press Start at kick-off. When the ball goes out or the referee stops play, press Pause; press Resume when play restarts.
- When the first half ends, the whistle blows and half-time starts by itself. Press Start again at the second-half kick-off.
Futsal match length and how it differs from soccer
The futsal Laws of the Game set two equal 20-minute halves. Unlike soccer, the timekeeper stops the clock every time the whistle blows, so a 20-minute half takes much longer in real time. Half-time can’t be longer than 15 minutes.
| Rule | Futsal | Soccer |
|---|---|---|
| Playing time | Two 20-minute halves | Two 45-minute halves |
| Clock | Stops at every whistle | Keeps running; stoppage time is added |
| Half-time | Up to 15 minutes | Up to 15 minutes |
| Timeouts | One 1-minute timeout per team in each half | None |
| Extra time | Two periods of up to 5 minutes (competition rules) | Two halves of up to 15 minutes (competition rules) |
Stopping the clock and timeouts
Press Pause or tap the center of the disk once to stop the clock, and again to carry on. On a computer, the Space bar is quicker. While the clock is stopped the disk stays still, so you can see at a glance that time isn’t running.
Under the laws, each team can call one 1-minute timeout in each half. It starts when the team that asked for it has the ball and play is stopped, and there are no timeouts in extra time. Keep the match clock paused during a timeout.
Pickup futsal and youth futsal
Without a timekeeper, a running clock is easier: set shorter halves, such as 15 or 20 minutes, and let it run. Check before kick-off that both halves and half-time fit inside your court booking.
Youth futsal times vary by age group and tournament. Use the times in your tournament rules, and turn on Play four quarters if you play in quarters.
For short games where teams rotate on and off, a single 10-minute timer is simpler. Change Alarm sound to Whistle in Sound and display, and it will blow the whistle at the end.
Reading the disk
On the 60-minute scale, a 20-minute half fills the disk from 12 to 4 o’clock. When its edge reaches 2 o’clock, 10 minutes are left; at 1 o’clock, 5 minutes. The digits show under the disk too, so you can count down the last seconds exactly.
During half-time the disk turns teal. Stand a tablet on the bench and turn on Focus mode to show the disk and the time full screen.
Futsal timer FAQ
How is it different from the soccer timer?
The features are the same; the defaults differ. The futsal timer opens with 20-minute halves and a 10-minute half-time, and the soccer timer with 45 and 15. Settings for each sport are saved separately.
What should I do during a timeout?
Pause the match clock when the timeout starts, and press Resume when play restarts after the minute. Under the laws, each team gets one 1-minute timeout in each half.
Can I play quarters?
Yes. Turn on Play four quarters to split the game into Q1 to Q4 with a break between each. Set the break to 0 minutes to go straight to the next quarter.
Why does half-time start on its own?
Start half-time automatically is on. Turn it off and half-time will wait for you to press Start half-time.
Can I change the times during a game?
While the clock runs, the settings are locked so nothing changes by accident. Pause to change them: a new half length applies from the next half, or right away if the timer is waiting for kick-off.
